Overview of the Shimonita Hydrangea Garden

Aiming to Be the Premier Hydrangea Garden in Kanto

The garden features about 20,000 hydrangea plants and approximately 1,200 crape myrtle trees, making it one of the largest hydrangea gardens in the Kanto region.
Located at the eastern gateway of Shimonita Town, planting efforts began in 2004, led by the town.
Following that, a local volunteer group, the “Hydrangea Cultivation Society,” was formed to continue planting, nurturing, and managing the garden.
Through these management activities, the project strengthens community ties and serves as a model for regional revitalization through town-resident collaboration (“cooperation”).
In addition to full community volunteer participation, the project receives support from Shimonita Town, the Seven-Eleven Green Foundation, the Tomioka Corporate Association, and cooperation from local construction companies.

About the Crape Myrtles at the Shimonita Hydrangea Garden

Approximately 1,200 crape myrtle trees are planted within the garden, blooming in a variety of colors from early August.
While visitors are welcome to stroll through the garden year-round, please note that maintenance of walking paths (such as the placement of wood chips on slippery areas) is only conducted during the hydrangea garden’s open period.
Visitors are responsible for ensuring their own safety when walking through the garden.
Also, during the garden’s off-season, no parking guidance is provided.
Please refrain from parking on the street, as it may obstruct traffic.
